Dorothy S. Asher

February 28, 1924 ~ April 19, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old
Dorothy Smith Asher, 93, a longtime resident of Slidell and former resident of Chalmette, passed away on Wednesday, April 19 at Ochsner Northshore Hospital surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Asher; brother, Charles Smith and sister, Elaine Becker. She is survived by daughters Sharon Asher Johnson (Jesse), Kathleen Asher Hubbard (Sonny); grandchildren, Jesse Johnson (Suzette), Judy Johnson Merrill (Aaron), Sunny Lee Hubbard Dubois (Robert) and Jeffrey Johnson (Jaime); brother, Albert Smith (Mary Ann); sister, Linda Wetzel (William); niece, Mary Kay Becker Potter (Kevin) and 7 great-grandchildren, Keagen, Jackson, Stella, Hayden, Collin, Remy and Kendall. She worked as a Clerk for Metal Products for 35 years at Kaiser Aluminum and then spent most of her retirement cooking almost every day for her family of nine and catering to her grandchildren. She was an enthusiast of word games, especially crosswords and Scrabble, and showed no mercy when playing her grandchildren. She recalled the time during World War II as one of the best times of her life, a time that was full of such intensity, a time when she met her husband and married him within weeks. She was a strong, feisty woman who will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at 12:15 pm on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 in the J. Garic Schoen chapel of JACOB SCHOEN & SON FUNERAL HOME. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am and continue until Mass time. Condolences may be expressed at www.schoenfh.com
