Dorothy Azcona Byrd, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, in Metairie, Louisiana. She was a native of New Orleans and a lifelong resident of Metairie for 62 years. Beloved wife of the late Thomas A. Byrd of Morganfield, Kentucky. Daughter of the late William F. Azcona and Thelma H. Azcona. Sister of the late Marilyn Kurtz (the late Edward C. Kurtz). She was the loving mother of Dianne B. Conforto (Charles) and Suzanne Byrd. She was the devoted grandmother of 3 grandchildren. Felicia Conforto Serigne (Rickey), Christina Conforto Fawaz (Sahid), and Charles Conforto. She was the loving great-grandmother of Cecilia C. Conforto, Zachary J. Fawaz and Caroline J. Serigne. Sister-in-law to Charlotte Byrd (the late Fred) and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law who preceded her in death. Louise Roland (Charlie), Janet Smith (Billy Ray), Mag Alvey (Eugene), Cotton Byrd (Ida), Maria Day (Jim), John Byrd (Margie). Dorothy is survived by nieces and nephews. William and Shelley Kurtz, Debbie and Wayne Prejeant, Tommy and Rachel Kurtz, and the late Edward C. Kurtz, Jr. David and Gail Day, Wilma Jean and Justin Wolfe, Phil and Diana Day, Rita Day and the late Thomas Day, Elizabeth and Randy Perkins, Father Freddie Byrd, Buster and Erica Byrd, Brenda Byrd, Margaret and Brian Coomes, Sheila and Don Slusher, and Mary Beth Parsons. She is survived by many great-nieces and nephews. Dorothy was a homemaker and a beautiful seamstress. She enjoyed making clothes for her children and grandchildren. She even made her daughter’s wedding dress. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Monday, April 17, 2017 at 12:15 pm in the J. Garic Schoen chapel of JACOB SCHOEN & SON FUNERAL HOME at 3827 Canal Street in New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am and continue until Mass time. Her final resting place will be in Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans. Condolences may be expressed at www.schoenfh.com
