John H. Helmke (Jack) passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the age of 90. John was a native of New Orleans and was known by his friends as “Whitie” and lived in Slidell for the past 10 years. He was a Veteran of the Coast Guard and retired from Entergy after 30 years of service. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was the husband of the late Helen M. Helmke, companion to Margaret Rolufs and brother to the late Robert L. Helmke and Norma M. Helmke. He is survived by three children: John (Joy), Michael (Sharon) and Richard (Tammy), two step children: Ronald Malloy and Helen Youman; and grandchildren Jason, Britnee, Scott, Brandon, Blake, Sean, Yvonne, Diane, Tracey, and the late Troy, Mark and Amanda and many great grandchildren. The family would like to extend a sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of Slidell Memorial and the PAM Medical Hospital of Covington for their support, care and patience.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend an evening visitation at JACOB SCHOEN & SON, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA on Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 6-9 pm. A service will be on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 9:45 am in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of JACOB SCHOEN & SON. Visitation will also be on Friday from 8:00 am until the time of the service. Interment will be in Metairie Cemetery.
