Tommye Germaine Mirandona passed away peacefully from this world on June 17, 2017 in New Orleans at 93 years of age.
A native New Orleanian and a Cum Laude graduate in Fine Arts of H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College, she began her professional career as a fashion illustrator for Gus Mayer in New Orleans. Following her work there, she contributed illustrations to well-known fashion purveyors, The May Company in Denver and Gumps’ San Francisco. In addition to her work in the fashion industry, she expressed her creative vision in a body of art works throughout her life.
Beginning early in her life, she experienced a variety of nature and urban settings which provided a rich palette of references for her creativity. Her art embraced a spectrum of subjects and styles and its manner of expression could draw in and captivate the viewer’s emotions. She especially loved interpreting nature though her talent for the visual arts to capture the beauty of flowers and scenes of gardens and landscapes. This love found its expression in the paintings, drawings and ceramic pieces produced over her 70 years of activity. Chiefly, her subjects were drawn from her environment in her native New Orleans.
She was preceded in departing this world by her mother, Mrs. Tommy Powers Mirandona, her father, Albert Louis Mirandona, her grandmothers, Mrs. Sadie Madden Powers and Mrs. Hortense Fourment Mirandona and her grandfathers, John Polycarpo Mirandona and John T Powers.
She is survived by her sisters Mrs. Jerrye M LaBreche and Mrs. Jean M Gibert, her son Harvey J Fitzpatrick Jr. and by her four grandchildren.
Her funeral was held in a private service. She will be well remembered by her family.
