Vallery J. Pitre Jr.

Vallery J Pitre Jr (Val) born Oct 19th, 1936, passed away peacefully at his home on March 14th, 2024, aged 87 years. Son of Vallery J Pitre Sr. and Thelma Bonck Pitre, was preceded in death by his sister Shirley Mae Pitre Guillory and his brothers Carroll A Pitre- Buddy and Marvin R Pitre. As well as his son Wayne J Pitre and his beloved wife of 61 years Ruth E Pitre. He is survived by his sister-in- law Barbara Pitre Raley, nephew Christopher Pitre (Roberta), his nieces Amy Pitre Bancroft (Sean) and Amanda R Pitre. Also, his great nieces Kathryn Bancroft, Emily Bancroft and Valerie Pitre.

A graduate of Delgado Technical College as a machinist led him to his passion for cars. Val worked in the automotive industry in many roles and taught his skills to many. A love of cars and speed brought him to the sport of drag racing, with roles as a competitor, official and fan. He is a member of the State Capitol Drag Racing Hall of Fame. He continued to be involved in car clubs and drag racing throughout the years. 

Val most beloved passion was for his extended family of the Krewe of Centurions joining in 1980, and participating for the rest of his life he held many positions in the club, none dearer to him than reigning as King Centurion XII in 1991. And eventually being titled President Emeritus. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Friends and Family are invited to visitation on Wednesday March 20th from 6 pm till 8 pm at Jacob Schoen’s Funeral home on Canal St in New Orleans. Visitation on Thursday March 21st at 9 am with a service at 10 am followed by burial at Lake Lawn Park mausoleum.

In Lieu of flower, donation to St Michael’s Special School in New Orleans is requested.
