Anita L. Fenner

October 8, 1941 ~ November 6, 2018 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Tribute

Anita Louise “Sissy” Muhoberac Fenner died on November 6, 2018 surrounded by her loving and admiring family after a brief illness. Predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Wendell L. Fenner, and her parents Lawrence G. Muhoberac and Marnesse A. Muhoberac, she is survived by her children Courtney F. Palermo (Paul), David R. Fenner (Carolina), Lesley F. Terminie (Chad), and her six grandchildren, Peyton and Cal Palermo, Sofia and Isabela Fenner, and Trevor and Trent Terminie, as well as numerous cousins. She was born October 8, 1941 in Evansville, IN and relocated to New Orleans as a young girl, where she attended St. Rose de Lima School and St. Joseph Academy. She earned her BA from St. Mary’s Dominican College, and subsequently served many roles in Dominican College’s Alumni Association. Anita was as dynamic a presence in any environment as she was caring for her loved ones. She shared her competitive spirit and lifelong devotion to sports with her own children and grandchildren, as well as the countless young people who came under her wing during her career as an educator. While raising her three kids, she taught health and physical education from the elementary school to the college level at several institutions in the Greater New Orleans area including Academy of the Sacred Heart, St. Joseph Academy, St. Mary’s Dominican College, St. Angela Merici, and St. Charles Borromeo. Demanding, but fair, in her more than 20 years as a coach, she mentored hundreds of athletes at the start of their athletic careers and led many of her teams to City Championships for volleyball and cabbage ball in the CSAL. Upon retirement from coaching and education, she continued in her dedication to youth athletics serving as an elementary and high school volleyball referee. Apart from her work, she practiced what she preached and could be found on local tennis courts with family and friends, the volleyball courts of various recreational leagues, and perhaps most happily on a bowling lane entertaining herself and her friends, an activity to which she eagerly wished to return. She was a resident of Metairie and a parishioner of St. Angela Merici parish from 1964 to the present. Those wishing to contribute in her name are encouraged to donate to the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Foundation, 4540 Elysian Fields Ave., New Orleans, LA, 70122, the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph (csjoseph.org), or the Dominican Sisters of Peace (stmarysdominican.org). A visitation will take place at St. Angela Merici Church, 901 Beverly Garden Drive, on Saturday, November 10, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., immediately followed by a Mass of Christian burial with a private interment to occur at a later date. JACOB SCHOEN & SON in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at www.schoenfh.com
