Tribute

Edgar Roy Derenbecker, Sr passed away peacefully on April 16, 2021 at 89 years old.  He was predeceased by his parents John Philip Derenbecker and Alma Klein Derenbecker, his sisters Audrey Derenbecker Yates and Alma Derenbecker Johnson, his brother John C Derenbecker, his son-in-law Marty Brugner, his brothers-in-law George Yates and Lawrence Johnson, his sisters-in-law Anna Mae Montelbano Derenbecker and Suisse Hackle Derenbecker.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years Barbara Jamerson Derenbecker;  his brother Warren Derenbecker;  his children Sandra Derenbecker, Eddie Derenbecker Jr (Rachel), Ron Derenbecker (Susan), and Linda Derenbecker Brugner;  his grandchildren Chris Vickrey (Chrissy), LT Brian Derenbecker, USN (IS1(IW/AW) Meghan, USN), Joe Vickrey, Ryan Derenbecker, FCA1(SW/AW) Ashley Derenbecker, USN, Sarah Derenbecker, Kyle Derenbecker, Andrew Brugner, Riley Brugner, Lisa Waldo, and Ryan Marse (Jessica);  great-granddaughters Lucy and Paige; his brother-in-law Tom Jamerson (Celeste), and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.  Edgar was a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, and he grew up in Mid-City where he graduated from Warren Easton High School.  He served in the US Navy.  After a long career in the hardware business, he retired as Sales Manager from Orgill Inc in 1997.  He travelled the world with his wife, his family, his friends.  He loved football, music, theatre, dancing, concerts, crossword puzzles, history, gardening, and City Park.  While he enjoyed the beauty and solitude of natural settings, he most enjoyed time spent with family and friends.  With his sense of humor and joy of life, he touched the lives of people of all backgrounds and generations.  For the past several years, Edgar’s struggles with Lewy Body Dementia made it hard for him to do what he enjoyed so much before.  Although we will all miss him terribly, he is at peace now, for which we are grateful.  The family would like to thank the people at Sanctuary at Passages Hospice who made sure his passing was peaceful and painless.  Funeral will be held on Thursday, April 22 at Jacob Schoen and Son at 3827 Canal Street.  Visitation will begin at 1pm, with a service at 3pm.  Private graveside service at Garden of Memories on Friday, April 23 at noon.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
