Glen H. Butler, age 89, went to be with our Lord on January 9, 2019. Born in Laurel, Mississippi, Glen was the youngest of six children.  Glen lived most of his life in New Orleans. Glen was a graduate of Our Lady of Holy Cross College and worked for over 50 years as a funeral director at Jacob Schoen and Son.  Glen was pre-deceased by his wife Effie Neal “Susie” Butler and his granddaughter, Hannah Butler. Glen was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and leaves behind his son, Lee Butler, daughter-in law, Elizabeth K. Butler, daughter, Ellen Funke, grandchildren, Katie Tahbaz, Andrew Butler, Matthew Funke, Jenny Fauntleroy and great grandchildren, Lucas Geesey, Cameron Tahbaz and Ellie Tahbaz. Glen was a loyal and devoted Freemason and was one of very few who attained recognition as a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a member and served as the Master of the Osiris Lodge in New Orleans, and was a member of the Linn Wood Lodge No. 167 and Alpha Home Lodge No. 72 and Jerusalem Temple of Shriners International. Of particular importance to Glen was his work with the Louisiana Relief Lodge No. 1 and the Masonic Relief Association of North America.  Glen served as Secretary of Louisiana Relief Lodge No. 1 and served for 25 years as Executive Secretary of the Masonic Relief Association of North America. Glen devoted thousands of hours of his time to the charitable and good works of these organizations beginning in the 1960s when many were impacted by Hurricane Betsy and continued providing relief to those in need over the next 50 years. Glen enjoyed life and often could be seen playing the stand-up bass and percussion with the Shriner Band or driving a dune buggy with the Shriners and Farhad Grotto organizations in Mardi Gras parades. Later in life Glen and Susie became avid Cajun dancers, competing in Cajun dance contests, and helping teach Cajun dance to customers at Michaul’s Restaurant and on various cruises. Glen spent the last 18 months of his life at The Trace assisted living facility in Covington and as recently as May 2018 was dancing with family and friends during the Friday afternoon Happy Hours.
