John Jacob Malloy

December 7, 1925 ~ May 4, 2018 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Tribute

John Jacob Malloy, age 92, passed away on May 4, 2018. Preceded in death by his mother, Justine Malloy Gavin, his father, John Albert Malloy, and his sisters, Albertine Barcelona, Nellie Malloy, Catherine Ferlita and Marion Dirmann. Also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Lillian “Petie” Wismar Malloy. Survived by his son, Dennis Malloy, his brother-in-law, Ray Dirmann, and a host of, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors and his church family.
As a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, he was in the Choir, Board of Christian Education, Superintendent of Sunday School, Walther League, Finance Committee, Men’s Club, and Capricious Productions where he could steal a stage show with just one line of dialogue. He was proud of the extensive volunteer work he did with two cousins of the renovation of St. Paul Lutheran School.
He was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. As a boy, he got the nickname “Picky,” because, according to John, he whistled a lot like a comic strip character, Piccolo Pete. He started work at a young age to help his family, becoming a shucker at their neighborhood restaurant, Malloy’s Oyster House, and did ice delivery with “Doc” Schiemann. He was a salesman/delivery man for both Joe Binder Bakery and Alois Binder Bakery for a total of 45 years. He celebrated his birthday every year with family at his favorite customer, The Bon Ton Café.
He was a man of faith, good-natured, generous and at times, mischievous. He made friends at doctors’ offices, groceries, and banks. He loved all and all who loved him will miss him. Special thanks to a special caregiver, Trenell Nelson.
He enjoyed traveling across the US, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, and the Bahamas. He was very grateful to go to Ireland with family members in a group led by Danny O’Flaherty and Michael Rooney in 2009. John was a true Irish tenor and the Heavenly Choir now has a wonderful addition.
