Madeline Dugas Weaver

Madeline Dugas Weaver of River Ridge, LA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. She was born in Shreveport, LA on October 7, 1927 to the late Gleason H. Dugas and Marguerite "Minnie" Landry Dugas. She lived most of her life in New Orleans. Madeline graduated from St. Joseph Academy and Dominican College with a degree in Home Economics and Education. She started working for International Harvester and later was the star of the “What's Cooking?” television show in Norfolk, VA. She was a homemaker. Madeline enjoyed world travel with her husband Van and later with her close-knit group of friends Myrna, Carolyn, and Beverly. She enjoyed gardening & flower arranging for the Pines Village Garden Club, giving tours as a docent for the Louisiana State Museum, and writing her memoirs in classes at the People Program. She especially enjoyed making baby caps & assembling beautiful bed covers for the homeless in the crochet classes there. As a devout Catholic, she was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary parish for many years and recently of St. Matthews in River Ridge.
Madeline was the cherished wife of the late Van H. Weaver, her husband of 52 years. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Raymond Dugas and Oscar Dugas. She is survived by her brother, Henry Dugas of Montreal, Canada, and her sister, Margaret Landry of Memphis, TN; children Thomas (Irma), Susan (Charles), Helen, and Joseph (Michelle) Weaver. She was the proud and loving grandmother (Granny) of Katherine Weaver. A funeral mass will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, January 24,, 2022 in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., New Orleans, LA 70119. Visitation will begin at 11:30 AM. Burial to follow the mass at St. Patrick Cemetery #1.
