Marie Pecquet Helwick entered the glory of heaven on June 17, 2021, surrounded by her children at the age of 93.
Marie was born in New Orleans, on December 24, 1927. She was a daughter of Marie Carite Pecquet and Adlai Charles Pecquet. She was the third oldest of 13 children. Her husband, Edgar G. Helwick and her granddaughter Peggy Marie Phipps preceded Marie in death. Mother of Kathy Gaulon (James), Karl Helwick (Cathy) and Karen Phipps (Skip).
“Mawmaw Re” was a beloved grandmother to David Weilbaecher (Haley), Michael Weilbaecher (Annette), Kristy Rubio (Cody), Kevin Phipps (Emily), Kacy Helwick (Duff), Peggy Phipps, Darren Phipps (Tabitha) and ten great grandchildren, Emma, Devin Donovan, Derek, Drayden, Claire, Lucas, William, Magnus and Passion. Mawmaw Re always asked for updates on the children. She was first concerned about their relationship with Jesus, their grades, friends and what sport or extracurricular activity they were participating in.
Marie loved to reminisce about her childhood and growing up in a large family. She shared many memories about her grandmother, parents, seven sisters, five brothers and many cousins.
Marie was a faithful church participant, a friendly neighbor, an all-day coffee drinker, and an avid Pelicans and basketball fan. She lived day by day, humbling, trusting Christ to provide for her needs, forgive her sins, and give her strength to live for His glory and to serve others. After a long life marked by faith, hope, and love, we rejoice that her faith is now sight.
