Mariella Guttierrez Rolling

January 15, 1936 ~ October 3, 2021 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Tribute

Mariella Guttierrez Rolling passed peacefully at her home on October 3, 2021. She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Garland Ray Rolling, and her two children, Gregory Randall Rolling (Cheri) and Laurie Eleanor Rolling Hagan (Ronn.) She was truly blessed with her grandson, Laurance Rolling Hagan, who lovingly and devotedly attended her during her illness and before. She is also survived by her brother, Rev. Milton Guttierrez (Kathy) and their children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eleanor and Milton Guttierrez, and by her dear aunt, Beatrice Kottwitz, known to all as Aunt Bea.

Mariella received her education at Gentilly Terrace Elementary and graduated from John McDonogh High School in 1953. In 2003, she worked diligently to organize and produce a 50 year reunion celebration to bring the class together again. She attended Tulane University and Soule College and became an insurance agent and underwriter and established the M.G. Rolling Insurance Agency.

Mariella was a member and leader in many organizations, but her major accomplishment was as a member for 18 years, Past Queen, and Captain for six years of the Krewe of Les Marionettes. Her whole family, including the family Basset Hound, Mandy, participated in the six balls that she produced. Her productions resulted in extravaganzas of great beauty and entertainment through her organizational talents and showmanship. She was proud to have been a charter member and first president of the Jefferson Bar Association Auxiliary. As Shoot Chairman for the South Louisiana Gun Club for 14 years, she brought awards to the club as well as to herself for her excellent management. She was also an active member of the Juniors to the New Orleans Women’s Club and later the Les Nouvelles, the “Jeffettes,” and the Red Hat Yats.

Mariella was fond of an “adventure” and was privileged to have traveled the world with her many friends. She lived her life always with an edge toward humor, repeating to all who would listen the many stories that filled her life.

The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate and enduring care given to Mariella and her family by Diane, Janet, Deborah, Betty, Tara, and LaToya and also by Amanda of Ochsner Rehabilitation Hospital and Misty of Heart of Hospice. Thank you to each of you for all that you did to ease the burden for Mariella and her family.
