Tribute

Marion Bruno, our beautiful mother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 13, 2022. She was born on August 14, 1929 in Vacherie, Louisiana and had a remarkable life as the mother of six sons, Joseph M. Bruno (Stephanie), Frank A. Bruno (Roxie), Stephen P. Bruno, Robert J. Bruno (Maryann), Thomas M. Bruno (Anna) and Christopher J. Bruno (Kerry). She was Mimi to her 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-nine years, Frank S. Bruno, her parents Amedee and Marie Schexnayder, her brother, Carl Schexnayder, and her grandchildren, Robby Bruno and Elizabeth Bruno. Mimi spent her formative years in Vacherie and after completing the 9th grade at St. James High School her parents entrusted her care to her great aunt, Mother John, of Ursuline Academy where she completed her high school education in 1944. Mimi had a passion for music adopting the piano as her instrument at very young age and continuing her musical education at Loyola University where she received a Music degree in 1950. She loved to play volleyball and basketball. It was at Loyola where Mom developed life-long friendships, which introduced us all to a group of strong, creative, loving and inspirational ladies. Mom loved to give dinner parties and highlighted every year with the Bruno's annual Christmas party. Every party brought with it the pleasant sounds of show tunes and operatic singing. Mom and Dad loved to travel the world, particularly to France, which was a second home to them. She engaged in many civic activities and had many accomplishments throughout her life but nothing was more important to her then her grandchildren. Every Sunday brought with it a house full of laughter, joy and good food. In the Ursuline publication, Serviam, which was dedicated to the Class of 46', Mom quoted a line from Wadsworth's Solitary Reaper, "[T]he music in my heart I bore Long after it was heard no more." Mom, the music of your life will always be heard. Mom had a special relationship with all of her children, a mother and a guardian angel. We love you and miss you. The family wants to express its gratitude to the sensitive and comforting care provided by Passages. A funeral mass will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 6666 Spanish Fort Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124, on Friday, August 19, 2022 at 11:30 AM with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM.  A private interment will follow in the family resting place.  Services are entrusted to Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., New Orleans, LA 70119. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send a small donation to the Loyola School of Music in Mom's name. To view and sign the virtual register book, please visit www.schoenfh.com.
