Obituary: Sister Mary Angela Bergeron, CIC
Sister Mary Angela Bergeron, a Sister of the Immaculate Conception, completed her earthly life January 2, 2021 at Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center, just a few weeks before her 106th birthday. Sister was born in Church Point, LA on January 26, 1915 to the late Regis Bergeron and Agnes Colligan Bergeron. Her deceased brothers include Wilfred, Vincent, Jack, Evans, Joseph, Arceau and Gerard. Inspired by the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, Sister entered the Congregation on December 7, 1933, professed first vows in August 1935 and perpetual vows in August 1939. An educator for much of her life, Sister ministered in Lockport, Labadieville, Destrehan, White Castle, Church Point, New Orleans, Larose, and Metairie. In 1999, following the Sisters’ decision to sell their Motherhouse in Metairie Sister Angela, with a number of other members of her congregation, moved to Our Lady of Wisdom. Sister’s smile lit up any room that she entered. She loved her Cajun roots and appreciated Cajun cooking and music to the end, delighting in the family and friends who gathered each January to celebrate her birthday. Sister is survived by Sister Jerome Blank, CIC and numerous nieces and nephews. The Rite of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 at the Mausoleum of the Marianites of Holy Cross. Because of the necessary precautions related to Covid-19, the burial will be private. Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119 in charge of arrangements.
