Bernadine Gay Miller Meaker

Gay Meaker, 87, passed peacefully at her home on Saturday, March 30, 2024, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Pre-deceased by her husband Harold Norman Meaker and her parents Bernardine Juliette Marchand and Edward Dehn Miller.

As an only child, Gay was raised in New Orleans by her parents who adored her and was her father’s joy.

She graduated from LSU in 1957 with honors earning a degree in Education and earned a master’s degree in education in 1962 from Tulane University.

She met her husband, Harold Norman Meaker at Tulane University and married in 1968 for 48 devoted years.

She was a social studies teacher in the New Orleans public school system until retirement.

They had no children. Gay is loved by both her family and Harold’s family.

Gay and Harold were world travelers. Gay was an LSU Football fan.

Gay was the custodian of her family’s history and was always ready to

share that information with the next generation.

She leaves behind many cousins, Harold’s family, and close friends to remember her legacy.

Her family would like to thank Home Instead staff and care givers for their devotion and kindness and the staff from Passages Hospice.

Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service at St. Louis Cemetery #3 on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 12pm.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at St. George's Episcopal Church beginning at 2pm.
