Tribute

Ignacio “Iggy” Restrepo, 97, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 in New Orleans, Louisiana where he resided with his wife of 70 years, Lucrecia (Herrera). He was born August 28, 1924 to Alfonso Restrepo and Teresita Restrepo in Bogota Colombia. On September 22, 1951 he married Lucrecia in Bogota Colombia.

Survivors include his wife, Lucrecia; his three sons, George Restrepo of New Orleans, Steve Restrepo of Covington, Louisiana and John Restrepo of Las Vegas along with their spouses; four grandchildren Alex, of New Orleans Andrew of Olympia, Washington, Christina of Missoula, Montana and Lauren of Los Angeles; and one great grandchild Max of New Orleans; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives in Colombia and friends from both North and South America.

Iggy worked for Flota Mercante Grancolombiana and led the company’s operations in the Gulf of Mexico region for 35 years; first from New Orleans and then in Houston, Texas where he retired. The greatest joys in his life were his wife, his career and cars. He was an active member of the maritime community throughout his career and an active member of the New Orleans Board of Trade and Texas Ports Association.

He was an armchair historian and an avid reader, especially of biographies. He loved dining out, with his wife and his many friends, especially the South American expat communities in New Orleans and Houston. He also enjoyed telling jokes, dancing, telling stories and, last but not least, he was passionate about his career as a maritime executive.

Iggy was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers and one sister, his grandparents and his in-laws.

A special thank you to the staff of the Chateau De Notre Dame assisted living facility in New Orleans for their loving care and support. Also thank you to the Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home of New Orleans for all of the arrangements.
