James Munaco

James (Giacomino) Munaco, age 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 20, 2018 at Lakeview Regional Hospital.  James was born on August 28, 1927 in Cinisi, Sicily as the first son of Lorenzo and Vincenza Munaco.  After serving his time in the Italian Navy he immigrated to the United States and married Catherine Giuffre.  He worked for Wholesome Bakery in New Orleans most of his career while he raised his two sons, Lawrence and James.  He was passionate about gardening and valued his family above all things.  After losing his first wife Catherine, he later remarried Antonina Manfre and they lived happily together until her passing in 2009.  James was also grandfather to Patrick and Frankie Munaco and great grandfather to Ella, Harrison and Logan Munaco. James was one of the most positive and caring individuals a person could hope to meet and was loved by all who were lucky enough to know him.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Heritage Manor of Mandeville for their dedicated support and care during his last few years.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral and Mass at JACOB SCHOEN & SON, 3827 Canal St. New Orleans, LA 70119 on September 25, 2018. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM followed by Mass at 12:15 PM.
