Joanna Losberg Sanders, 83, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2021. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 36 years, Fred Sanders, her parents, Lloyd and Lorraine Losberg and her most beloved aunts, Lena Ciaccio Molinario and Rose Ciaccio White. Joanna will be especially missed by her sons, Douglas (Debbie) and Michael (Keli), her daughter Jeanne, 3 loving grandchildren Cody (Lauren), Roxanne and Allen, her "Sissy" Lorraine (Ken) Davis and numerous nieces and nephews. Joanna was born on September 23, 1937 in New Orleans where, in her teens, became an avid volunteer for the Little Sisters of the Poor nursing home community. Her outgoing personality and charitable heart enabled her to make friends with the sisters and residents alike. Joanna was known by many different names throughout her life: Mom, Sissy, Aunt Jo, YoYo Ma, Duck, Maw Maw/Grandma and Momster. In life, Joanna enjoyed fishing, going to the casino, Barq's root beer, Hershey's chocolate, crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Most recently her greatest joy came in the way of beating her friend and sweet companion, Carol Stephany in a spirited game of Skipbo. The family would like to thank the incredible, loving and caring home health company and its’ employees at Apex Home Health for assisting in her care on and off for the last several years. In addition, the family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Smita Patel and St. Tammany General Hospital for the care they provided over the last month of her life, in addition to the Hospice team for facilitating Joanna’s transition into God’s loving arms. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 11, 2021 in the Gerard L. Schoen Chapel of Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM. Interment to follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, Joanna’s request was for donations to the Little Sisters of the Poor.
