Lambert Dittman “Buddy” Hanemann, Jr. passed away peacefully on April 2, 2024 at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home.  Buddy was born on August 23, 1935 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Lambert Dittman Hanemann and Odette Moule’ Hanemann.  He is survived by his children, Sueann North (Brian), Robert Hanemann; grandchildren, Molly Bilich (Luke), William North (Julie), Maxx Hanemann, and Nash Hanemann; great grandchildren, Amalie Bilich, Wesley North, and Luka Bilich.  Also survived by his siblings, Dorothy Mallerich (Dallas), Edward Hanemann, David Hanemann (Rochelle), Eugene Hanemann, Felix Hanemann (Lisa), numerous nieces and nephews, and his pet boxer, Louie.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Joyce R. Hanemann, his parents, his first-born child, Lambert Dittman Hanemann, III, who died shortly after birth, and his sister Jacqueline.  Buddy attended St. Rose De Lima Catholic School and graduated from Warren Easton High School in 1954.  Buddy served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves 4th Infantry Battalion from 1957 – 1963 and received the Marine Corps Reserve Service Medal.  He was a member of American Legion Metairie Post 175. Buddy worked for New Orleans Public Service (NOPSI) and retired from Sears Roebuck and Company where he was a tire salesman for many years.  In retirement, Buddy gave his time to his beloved New Orleans community as an avid volunteer.  He was especially dedicated to the New Orleans City Park Botanical Gardens where he and Joyce received the Volunteer of the Year Award.  His most cherished accomplishments were being a loving husband, raising his family, and serving his country in uniform.  Buddy was a most generous person, always glad to host a gathering at the “Hanemann Hilton” where generations of family and friends enjoyed his beautiful pool surrounded by gardens that he meticulously cared for.  Buddy’s family extends its gratitude to his many caregivers (Latricia, Lindsey, Steve, Maria, Kim, Regina, Karen, Mary, Natalie, Wendy, and Beverly) for their love and support over the past few years.  The family would also like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful staff of the VA Medical Center in New Orleans, particularly Dr. Dana Walker, and the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated on April 19, 2024 at 11:30 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church located at 6666 Spanish Fort Road, New Orleans, LA, 70124.  Visitation will begin at 9:30.
