Norma Livia Acosta

March 31, 1938 ~ May 18, 2022 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Tribute

Our mother and grandmother Ms. Norma Livia Acosta passed away in her sleep May 18, 2022, at the age of 84, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Born on March 31, 1938, in Isabella, Puerto Rico, Norma was the third of six children born to Anibal San Antonio Hernandez and Maria Luisa Machado Hernandez.

Norma was preceded in death by her oldest son, Mr. Kenneth E. Manness; her mother and father; sisters, Minerva and Mary; her brother, Junior; and her granddaughter, Monica.

Surviving family members include her sister, Rosie; her two daughters, Mrs. Diana N. Wondering (Richard) and Ms. Olga Rodriguez; her two sons, Mr. David W. Manness and Mr. Robert D. Manness (Todd). Ms. Acosta is also survived by her grandchildren: Tracy, Johnathon, Dustin, Jason, Richard, Amanda, Melanie, Christopher, Sarah, Katie, and their children.

Adventurous throughout her life, she loved reading, fishing, cooking, sewing, and passing her love of sewing down two generations. If you knew her, you knew she loved her floppy hats, and that when she cooked paella, she had hit the jackpot after playing her lotto numbers. Her goofy sense of humor and knowing all, was always impressive. If you disagreed with her, she would say “Get the book”. When the book proved her right, it was usually followed with sincere and often sarcastic “Believe Me.”

Norma had the mouth of a pirate and the heart of an angel. She willingly gave her best years to the people she loved and continued to do so until her passing. Her love was unconditional, and she did the best she could throughout all the obstacles she encountered along her 84-year journey. She was the kind of person that could have a bad day and still wear a smile that could light up a room, even without teeth. Norma was nothing short of a miracle in human form and will be loved and missed by all the people she impacted with her colorful presence.

Her smile, laugh, and fussing/cussing will be missed, Believe me!

A celebration of her life will be held at Jacob Schoen Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St. New Orleans, Louisiana, on Friday, May 27, 2022. Visitation will be from 12:00pm until 1:30pm followed by a brief memorial service at 1:30pm. To view and sign the virtual register book, please visit www.schoenfh.com.
